Back To Basics
(Part 1)
Sometimes we overlook the simple things. In order to
get results from our fishing trips we need to remember the basics. The
strength of our "connection" to our catch depends on our rod, reel, line,
hook and knots. These items need to be of top quality and are often overlooked.
When's the last time you changed your line? Did you buy it from "Discount
Bobs Used Fishin' Line Store"? If so, get yourself some good quality, brand
name, fresh line! Most striper anglers in this area seem to prefer somewhere
around a 17 pound test. If you use too heavy of a line it will not allow
your bait to swim normally. Too light of line and the fish will escape!
Next learn to tie a good knot! The weakest point
in your connection could easily be your knot. Always pull the knot tight
and hold pressure on it for a second or so to "set" the knot tight.
